Helping remove financial barriers for dedicated players and families pursuing competitive soccer opportunities.
Personally funded by Luis Huerta, Director of Coaching
The Huerta Scholarship was created to provide additional opportunities for players and families who may not otherwise have access to competitive club soccer. Separate from Grande FC's traditional financial aid and team scholarship programs, the Huerta Scholarship is a personally funded initiative launched by Luis Huerta, Grande FC's Director of Coaching.
The scholarship was built in direct alignment with the mission of Grande FC — providing families access to a highly competitive club soccer environment at a significantly more financially accessible level than traditional club models, while still delivering high-level training, development, league competition, and exposure opportunities.
Grande FC has consistently worked to remain approximately 45–50% more affordable than many traditional Arizona club soccer programs.
The Huerta Scholarship serves as another important tool in helping players overcome financial barriers that might otherwise limit their opportunity to compete. At Grande FC, we believe talent, work ethic, and character — not financial circumstances — should determine a player's opportunity to pursue higher levels of competition and development.
Luis Huerta's journey and why this matters
Director of Coaching, Grande FC
Born in Las Vegas and raised in Casa Grande, Luis experienced firsthand the sacrifices many local families make to give their children opportunities in soccer. Before local competitive club opportunities existed, his family spent years traveling to Tucson and Scottsdale so he could compete, develop, and gain exposure.
After suffering an ACL injury, Luis initially believed his playing career had come to an end and shifted his focus toward higher education at Central Arizona College. However, through hard work, determination, and persistence, he earned the opportunity to continue his playing career at Pima Community College, which at the time was one of the top junior college soccer programs in the nation.
As a former financial aid athlete himself, Luis understands how expensive the youth soccer system can be and how many talented players are often overlooked simply because of cost.
The Huerta Scholarship's flagship year represents Luis's commitment to giving back to the same communities that helped shape his journey. Its purpose is simple: to help ensure that hardworking, passionate players in communities like Casa Grande and Maricopa are not denied opportunities because of financial limitations.
